PRESS RELEASE

QUINCY, Mass. — Fire departments and safety advocates across North America will join forces to participate in Home Fire Sprinkler Week, May 11-17, 2025. Through community outreach and social media messages, participants will reach millions to increase awareness about how home fire sprinklers stop fires from becoming deadly, protecting residents and firefighters and dramatically reducing property loss.

Home fires are a serious threat to residents and responding firefighters, accounting for more than 80% all civilian deaths in structure fires.Nowadays the danger is compounded by the fact that homes with modern furnishings, open spaces, unprotected wood construction, synthetics and emerging technologies such as lithium-ion batteries burn hotter and faster than in the past, producing toxic, deadly smoke and making it harder to escape.

Today’s fires can become deadly in just two minutes, but home fire sprinklers are faster than that and can control or extinguish a fire in less than two minutes. Only the sprinkler closest to the fire will activate from the heat of the fire, allowing time to escape. Fire sprinklers use far less water compared to firefighter hoses.

A vital component of Home Fire Sprinkler Week is the Home Fire Sprinkler Coalition (HFSC) digital campaign, which focuses on the need for better understanding of the life safety benefits of home fire sprinklers.

Each day of the campaign will feature a different theme and content for social media and websites. The messages are sized for various social media and are easy to share with little time and effort. Everyone is encouraged to visit the website every day during the week and share the messages. Many fire departments are also conducting community outreach events with live fire demonstrations and displays.

The daily themes for this year’s Home Fire Sprinkler Week are:

  • Monday - Fires Are Fast, Sprinklers Are Faster
  • Tuesday - The Cost to Communities Without Fire Sprinklers
  • Wednesday - Fire Sprinklers Are Part of a Fire-Safe Community
  • Thursday - It’s Easy to Live with Home Fire Sprinklers
  • Friday - Protect What You Value Most

Participants in Home Fire Sprinkler Week can tap into a wealth of free resources at the HFSC Studio to create a wide array of materials for their community outreach programsEmploying this easy-to-use online tool, departments can design their own flyers, posters, and social media cards; share messages on social media; producevideos; issuea customizedproclamation; and generate sprinkler educational materials to distribute at community events.

“Home Fire Sprinkler Week is a great opportunity for us to bring together our digital voices and amplify the message of the tremendous benefits of fire sprinklers across our continent,” said Lorraine Carli, NFPA vice president of Outreach and Advocacy and president of the HFSC. “The campaign is simple and really works well. Today’s homebuyers are savvy about safety and when they learn about fire sprinklers, they want them. The virtual reality, digital and other resources underscore not just that we can do better, they underscore exactly how to do better.”
