NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Nashville Fire Department is using its own mistake to remind its citizens of the dangers of unattended cooking.

On Sunday, firefighters at Station 1 were cooking dinner when they were dispatched to an apartment fire, WTVF reported. The firefighters quickly responded but they forgot to turn the stove off.

“We’re just as vulnerable as everyone else,” Public Information Officer Kendra Loney said. “The irony is not lost on me.” A pot of food was left cooking on the stove.

When firefighters returned to Station 1, they saw fire coming from the roof and the kitchen engulfed in flames. The kitchen is ruined and the firefighters are now temporarily displaced.

“Here we are, we are just like you because we’re in your community. We are just inviting you into this space to show you, it can happen anywhere, even at a fire station,” Loney said.

The Nashville Fire Department says some of their newer firehouses have sprinklers that could have prevented this fire.
