NORWICH, U.K. — The Backdrafts, whose members are stationed in Dereham, Thetford and Norwich, perform in full fire-fighting kit and are attracting a growing reputation across the county’s live gig circuit.
And while burning up the stage in their flame-retardant trousers, they are equally committed to raising money for the Fire Fighters Charity and spreading the word about the importance of testing smoke alarms every week.
Those life-saving instincts prompted the writing of the Smoke Detector Blues – a laid-back 12-bar tune with tongue-in-cheek lyrics and references to the Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service’s “Test It Tuesday” campaign. The song has been professionally recorded at Ashwood Studios in Norwich, and the band hopes to release it via online channels and retailers – and they will also circulate it around the nation’s fire authorities as a public safety awareness tool.
