BOULDER COUNTY, Colo. — The Boulder County commissioners have approved $1,301,726 in grants for the mountain and rural fire protection districts.
The 13 grants will help pay for medical equipment, personal protective equipment for firefighters and emergency personnel, capital improvements for fire stations, new emergency and firefighting vehicles, and upgraded radios, according to a release.
Voters approved the Emergency Services Sales and Use Tax in 2022, which provides the funds for the grants.
The grant money will go to the following mountain and rural fire protection districts in Boulder County; $49,588 to the Boulder County Firefighters Association; $68,990 to Boulder Fire-Rescue; $16,063 to the Boulder Rural Fire Protection District; $93,145 to Four Mile Fire Protection District; $150,659 to Gold Hill Fire Protection District; $35,442 to Hygiene Fire Protection District; $155,100 to Indian Peaks Fire Protection District; $202,000 to the Jamestown Fire Department; $115,283 to Lefthand Fire Protection District; $108,500 to the Lyons Fire Protection District; $61,954 to Mountain View Fire Protection District; $95,000 to Nederland Fire Protection District; and $150,000 to Sugar Loaf Fire Protection District.
The Emergency Services Grant Program Advisory Committee, a volunteer group of county residents, made the grant recommendations.
Twice a year, the Emergency Services Grant Program Advisory Committee reviews applications from organizations that provide firefighting, search and rescue, trail safety and emergency medical services in Boulder County. The committee then makes recommendations to the commissioners.
Boulder County officials said that a second round of grants will be offered this spring.
