$125K grant helps Texas FD purchase new brush truck

A Texas A&M grant, donations and a trade-in helped Rockdale firefighters with their latest apparatus purchase

ROCKDALE, Texas — The Rockdale Volunteer Fire Department has upgraded its fleet by purchasing a new $180,000 brush truck to replace a 2001 model.

Funding for the new brush truck came from a $125,000 grant from the Texas A&M Forest Service’s Rural Volunteer Fire Department Assistance Program, $12,500 from trading in on the older brush truck and community donations, KRHD reported.

“We were fortunate enough to get it,” Training Lieutenant Braden Wallis said.

The new brush truck is equipped with a lifted suspension, larger tires, 150 feet of hose and a 400-gallon water tank.

“We are going to be able to go a little bit deeper than we previously weren’t able to do and fight more fire and hopefully save more property,” Wallis said.
