BAINBRIDGE, Ga. — A firefighter-EMT died March 30 of cardiac arrest after conducting search and rescue drills in full gear.

According to the U.S. Fire Administration, Decatur County Fire Rescue firefighter-EMT Adam Taylor, 30, went home late into his shift after complaining of chest pains he thought were due to a pulled muscle.

Taylor went into cardiac arrest shortly after returning home. He was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Taylor became a member of the department in 2012, according to WCTV. He began his fire career in 2007 with the Sylvester Fire Department.

“Firefighter-EMT Adam Taylor passed away unexpectedly the night of March 30, 2018, at the young age of 30,” DCFD said in a statement. “Over the course of his career, Adam proved himself to be an outstanding firefighter, one who was very knowledgeable of firefighting tactics, and could be relied on to show up to any scene ready to work.”

“His smile could light up any room, and he always had one on his face,” the department added. “It was next to impossible to stay mad at him. Adam would do anything for his family, for his friends and for his fellow fire brothers/sisters.”

Taylor leaves behind his wife and two children.
