BELDING, Mich. — A firefighter was fired from his position Monday after racist posts on Facebook surfaced.
Ryan Hudson, 40, allegedly went on a profanity-laced racist Facebook rant, calling an African-American woman a derogatory term and referencing slavery, reported WOOD. The posts were later deleted, but the woman took a screenshot of the comments and shared them online.
“The repercussions here were obvious … We made immediate termination of this employee,” Belding Fire Chief Gregg Moore said.
Hudson initially told Chief Moore he did not write the posts, but later admitted that he had been drinking and doesn’t remembering posting them.
“It’s very out of character for me,” Hudson said. “I’m truly sorry from the bottom of my heart because it doesn’t reflect everybody.”
The woman said she hopes Hudson has learned from the incident.
“The idea is to correct it and really show remorse by how you live your life. That’s a true apology — what you’re teaching your children,” she said.
