4 Va. firefighters file promotion grievance

Firefighters’ promotions announced in 2010, but were never officially honored

ROANOKE, Va. — Four Roanoke firefighters are taking the city to court because their promised promotions of over two years have not gone into effect.

Firefighters Scott Boone, Andy Foley, David Lucas, and Trevor Shannon are filing grievances with the city after their promotions to lieutenant were announced in 2010, but then reneged, according to WSLS.

The firefighters were originally denied their grievance filing by Roanoke city manager, Chris Morrill, who said they did not follow proper procedure and waited too long to file their request.

An attorney for the firefighters said according to the city, the firefighters never received their promotion because their fire station was privatized.

A spokesman for the Roanoke City fire-EMS declined to comment.

The case is scheduled for Sept 26.
