RACINE, Wis. — Wingspread VI recently released its conference report, outlining what fire service leaders and attendees deemed the most important issues facing the fire industry.

The conference, which meets once every 10 years, is where fire service leaders brainstorm and produce a list of actionable statements about making major improvements to the fire service.

The latest conference met July 2016 and voted to meet every five years instead of every 10. Major issues that were discussed included education, technology, the economy and the big six (members, customers, operations, facilities, apparatus and equipment and sustainability).

The report outlines 14 actionable statements. Included in the report were resolutions on fire sprinkler technology, the use of “smart” technology and data collection and management systems. The report also called for emergency services to develop positive human relations skills, knowledge and the abilities to manage in current times.
