FLORENCE, Ky. — A retired assistant fire chief collapsed and died while shoveling snow at his home Monday.

Fox19 reported that former Assistant Fire Chief R.G. Bidwell, 72, served with the Florence (Ky.) Fire Department for 30 years before retiring 15 years ago.

He had a hand in training many of the paramedics and firefighters working there today.

Funeral arrangements are pending.
