FDNY battles fire in an abandoned hospital

Staten Island fire companies faced a fire on the second floor of a six-story hospital building

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Firefighters responded to a fire on the second floor of a vacant building on the grounds of Seaview Hospital on Wednesday afternoon, according to a spokesperson with the FDNY.

The fire was reported at 1:46 p.m. on the second floor of a vacant, six-story structure, the FDNY spokesperson told the Advance/SILive.com.

Twelve units consisting of 60 fire and EMS personnel responded to the scene and brought the fire under control at 2:28 p.m. , the FDNY says.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
