NEW YORK — When you look at Lisa Cusimano, you may not guess right off the bat that she’s one of New York’s Bravest. Her size and stature is not that of a typical FDNY firefighter. That’s just one reason why she decided to “Show ‘Em What’s Underneath” in a recent ad campaign.
“If you look at me I’m not the typical, average firefighter. Going through the academy was a big hurdle that I had to overcome. Not only being a female in this occupation but a female of my size and stature,” Cusimano says.
Jockey’s campaign aims to feature everyday individuals and encourage people to feel comfortable in their own skin, says Matthew Waller, Jockey’s Senior Manager of Corporate Communications.
Cusimano graduated from the FDNY Fire Academy last year when she was 21. She said she was inspired to join the department by her father, a former firefighter.
“I love that people turn to us in their times of crisis. Seeing the way that everybody comes together at a fire situation, to me that’s really cool,” Cusimano said. “It’s really taught me to put others first. You become a selfless person.”
