On Thursday, members of the FDNY gathered with the family, friends and colleagues to honor the memories of three firefighters who died battling a grisly blaze on Father’s Day in 2001.
Firefighters Harry S. Ford, Brian D. Fahey and John J. Downing were working a fire at a Long Island supply hardware store on June 17, 2001, when a basement explosion caused the two-story brick structure to collapse.
On the 20th anniversary of their deaths and just prior to Father’s Day weekend, a crowd gathered to honor the men and the sacrifice of their families with a wreath-laying ceremony.
