BROOKLYN, N.Y. — The FDNY community gathered in Brooklyn Wednesday as probationary firefighter Vincent Malveaux was laid to rest.
Malveaux, 31, died after suffering a medical episode during a training exercise on Randall’s Island last week, the FDNY said in a statement.
Malveaux’s funeral was at the Christian Cultural Center.

“He was training to be one of New York City’s bravest ... He was learning each day and loving what he was doing,” said FDNY Commissioner Daniel A. Nigro.
“Vincent Malveaux had everything we looked for in a member of the department,” Nigro added. “He approached his day with humility and kindness.”
Malveaux was sworn into the current probationary firefighter class on Oct. 25 and was in week six of his 18-week training at the time of his death.
Prior to the academy, he graduated from the FDNY EMS Academy at Fort Totten in 2017. He then served as an emergency medical technician for four years with the FDNY, assigned to Station 19 in the University Heights section of the Bronx, where he responded to thousands of calls for help, including throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, the FDNY said.
Malveaux is the 1,154th member of the FDNY to die in the line of duty.
