ODESSA, Texas — A 51-year-old fire captain was found dead in an alley in the area of his home Thursday. City officials said it was suicide.
OA Online reported that police officers were called to a gunshot victim at about 3:05 p.m. Thursday. Officers found Odessa Fire and Rescue Division Capt. Hugh Koenig on the ground in the alley.
Andrea Goodson, a spokeswoman for the City of Odessa, said Koenig lived in the area he was found and that her thoughts go out to his family.
“He was a good guy,” Goodson said. “This is tragic.”
Koenig was been with the department since 1985.
