SALEM, Mass. — The Fire Department is “in a state of shock” after learning of the death of fire Lt. Scott Hebert, fire Chief David Cody said.
Hebert was on vacation in the Dominican Republic with his wife when he died of a heart attack on Monday, according to the department.
Hebert, a Danvers resident, joined the fire department as a firefighter in 1998 and was promoted to lieutenant in 2008, Cody said. The department learned of the death late Monday afternoon.
The Police Department announced his death on social media early Tuesday afternoon, extending “deepest sympathies” to the fire department.
Hebert leaves four children in addition to his wife.
“Everyone is definitely surprised,” Cody said. “Everyone’s feeling very badly for Scott and the family.”
Funeral arrangements are incomplete.
