LODD: Ohio firefighter dies at steel plant job

Kenny Ray Jr. was found unresponsive at the plant and was later pronounced dead; authorities are still working to determine his cause of death

CANTON, Ohio — An Ohio man who worked as a firefighter, police officer and EMT died while working at a steel plant Sunday.

CantonRep.com reported Kenny Ray Jr. was found dead at his full-time job at the TimkenSteel Faircrest plant.

In a statement released on Sunday, TimkenSteel said Ray had been checking fire extinguishers at the plant and was found unresponsive around 4 p.m. He was later pronounced dead.

Ray had recently begun working for the Creston Police Department and was a firefighter-EMT with the Uniontown Fire Department.

“Kenny was immediately well-liked and accepted by our department. Our deepest sympathies go out to his wife, family, friends and co-workers,” said a post on the Creston Police Department Facebook page.

TimkenSteel is working with authorities to determine Ray’s cause of death.
