VENTURA COUNTY, Calif. — A firefighter died and another was injured after the water truck they were in overturned while heading to the Canyon Fire Wednesday morning.
KSBY.com reported that Ventura County Fire PIO Capt. Mike Lindbery announced on Twitter that Fire Engineer Ryan Osler, 38, was killed in the crash. According to the California Highway Patrol, the rig, for unknown reasons, hit a roundabout and overturned.
“Our collective hearts are broken at the loss of our friend and brother Ryan. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family,” Ventura County Fire Chief Mark Lorenzen said.
Two people were on board at the time of the crash. Osler, the passenger, was killed and the driver was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.
Osler had been with the Ventura County Fire Department for the last 18 years. He began his career in 1998 as a member of the Ventura County Fire Handcrew and was hired as a trainee firefighter in 2006, KEYT.com report. After six years, he was promoted to Fire Engineer at Fire Station 42 in Moorpark.
He leaves behind his wife and two children.
