PATERSON, N.J. — A New Jersey firefighter died Monday after riding his bike off a cliff.
NBC New York reported that Kerry Rivera, 49, was biking with his brother when he fell at least 20 feet into a ravine.
Rivera was a 14-year veteran of the Paterson Fire Department. His colleagues said he was a good father, a football coach and a Sunday school teacher.
“We had coffee in the morning,” Deputy Chief Kevin Hancock said. “He was a happy guy. He was one of those guys — there’s probably not a person who knew Kerry who would have a bad thing to say about Kerry.”
Rivera leaves behind his wife and two children.
