STOCKTON, Calif. — A family was able to escape a fire that destroyed their home thanks to their dog, who alerted them before dragging the baby to safety.

FOX40 reported that Sasha, an 8-month-old pit bull, awoke Nana Chaichanhda by banging on her back door as a fire began to rip through her apartment complex.

“I open it and she runs in and starts barking at me like crazy and I was like, ‘OK, this is weird. This is not like her,’” Chaichanhda said.

As soon as Sasha was in the apartment, she ran into the bedroom and began dragging Chaichanhda’s 7-month-old baby to safety.

“She had already had my baby by the diaper and was dragging her off the bed,” Chaichanhda said. “I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, what are you doing?’”

Chaichanhda said it’s because of Sasha that she and her baby are safe.

“It meant a lot. I owe her everything. If it wasn’t for her, I would have still been in bed and things could have taken a worse turn,” she said.

A GoFundMe has been set up to help the family get back on their feet after the fire destroyed their apartment. Click here to donate.
