WASHINGTON — Firefighting has made U.S. News & World Report’s 100 Best Jobs in 2022 list.
Firefighter comes in at 85 out of 100, with a median salary listed as $52,500.
U.S. News & World Report stated in a news release that, “the rankings offer a look at the best jobs across 17 categories – from sectors such as business and technology – to help job seekers at every level achieve their career goals.”
To formulate the list, U.S. News uses data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics to identify jobs with the greatest hiring demand. Then it scores jobs using seven component measures: 10-year growth volume, 10-year growth percentage, median salary, employment rate, future job prospects, stress level and work-life balance.
The top three jobs are information security analyst, nurse practitioner and physician assistant. All those positions have median salaries over $100,000.
Firefighter rated more highly than dental hygienist, elementary school teacher, bartender, taxi driver and nurse midwife. EMT and paramedic were not included in the list.
