N.C. deputy fire chief dies of cancer complications

Ralph “Mike” Cobb, 60, had a long battler with cancer; he is survived by his wife and son

McLEANSVILLE, N.C. — Ralph Michael “Mike” Cobb, deputy chief of the McLeansville Fire Department, died Sunday.

He was 60.

According to the fire department’s Web site, he had had a “long battle with cancer.”

“He gave selflessly to his community through service in the Fire Department,” a statement posted on the Web site read. “Even through his battle he answered the call of those in need.

“Mike will be greatly missed, and he will continue to live on in this department and this community in the hearts and thoughts of his family, friends, and fellow firefighters.”

According to an obituary, Cobb was a former firefighter with the Whitsett Fire Department, and had also worked at Bell South for 31 years.

He is survived by his wife Susan Cagle Cobb and son Brandon Michael Cobb.

Family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church, 5120 Burlington Road in Greensboro.

The funeral will take place at the church, 2 p.m. Wednesday.
