For the third year in a row, Michael has asked family and friends to make donations to the department in lieu of gifts for his birthday

MORRIS TWP, N.J. — A 7-year-old boy was given a certificate of appreciation for his donation to a combination fire department.

The Daily Record reported that the Morris Township Fire Department awarded Michael Pizzimenti, a tiger scout, a certificate of appreciation for donating $1,125 to the department.

For the third year in a row, Michael has asked family and friends to make donations to the department in lieu of gifts for his birthday, according to the report.

“I ask for donations instead of gifts since I have a lot of things already,” Michael said. “The firefighters do so much for our community and I think it’s a good way to help since I’m not old enough to volunteer for the junior firefighter program yet.”

The Morris Township Fire Department has been serving the residents of the township since 1910 and is currently a combination of 19 career firefighters and 83 volunteer firefighters, according to the report.
