Mich. FFs respond to numerous fires after football victory

Ann Arbor firefighters responded to numerous fires as fans celebrated the football championship

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — The Ann Arbor Fire Department was called to numerous fires throughout the city after the University of Michigan football team won the national championship on Monday, Jan. 8.

There was a fire raging in front of Good Time Charley’s after the game ended. Reporters at the scene said there were at least a thousand people near the bar, located at 1140 S. University.

Ann Arbor fire Chief Mike Kennedy confirmed that crews were responding to at least six fire calls just before midnight.

Around 12:45 a.m., the Ann Arbor Fire Department posted a release on Facebook saying that there were 17 separate couch and debris fires and no injuries. No structures or vehicles were involved. All the fires were located in the South University, Hill Street and Washtenaw Avenue area.
