NEWPORT, Vt. — A volunteer firefighter in the Vermont town of Albany has been found competent to stand trial to a charge that he set fire to the local fire department.
Police say 45-year-old Elmer James Joerg of Holland was arrested on a charge of first-degree arson. He pleaded not guilty in August.
Authorities say Joerg, who is a member of theAlbany Fire Department, is accused of setting fire to fire a truck that quickly spread to the fire department building
Vermont Public Radio reports he is being held at the Northeast Regional Correctional Facility in St. Johnsbury for lack of $250,000 bail.
