OSWEGO, N.Y. — A 25-year-old Central New York woman was charged with attempted murder and arson after a house fire in the city of Oswego injured one firefighter, police said Tuesday.
Samantha O’Neil, of Oswego, set the fire just before 2 p.m. on Sept. 24 knowing there were people inside the home at 165 E. 4th St., police said.
When firefighters arrived, they found a multi-family home with heavy fire showing from the second-story window, Oswego Fire Chief Paul Conzone said.
It took firefighters 70 minutes to put out the fire. The second floor of the home sustained heavy fire, smoke, and water damage. Four people were displaced from the home.
The injured firefighter was taken to a hospital for injuries sustained while battling the fire, Conzone said. The firefighter was expected to make a full recovery, he said the day of the fire.
O’Neil was charged with second-degree arson, attempted murder, first-degree burglary and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, police said. She was arraigned in Oswego County CAP Court and taken to the Oswego County Jail where she is being held on $25,000 cash and $50,000 bond.
