Naked NY arson suspect sets himself on fire

An investigation found the man had used an accelerant to light up the home and accidentally set himself on fire in the process

GARDINER, N.Y. — A naked man accidentally set himself on fire Friday while trying to torch an occupied home in the town of Shawangunk, according to state police.

Police responding to a report of a naked man trying to set a home on fire found a naked Daniel T. Keddis, 23, of the Bronx. The investigation found Keddis had used an accelerant to light up the home and accidentally set himself on fire in the process, according to a press release.

Keddis was located near the scene and arrested on felony charges of arson and reckless endangerment. He was arraigned in town of Gardiner Court and sent to the Ulster County Jail in lieu of $100,000 cash bail or $200,000 bond.

He is due in town of Shawangunk Court Tuesday.

The investigation was conducted by state police from Ellenville, Highland and Middletown, along with the Ulster Sheriff’s Office.
