WALES, Wis. — An explosion and fire gutted part of a fireworks factory Wednesday, injuring three people, authorities said.
The three were treated for burns after the explosion at the Bartolotta Fireworks Co. plant about 30 miles west of Milwaukee. Their conditions and connections to the factory were not immediately released.
No one else was in the 40-by-60-foot building when the explosion occurred shortly after 9 a.m., Fire Chief Greg Jezak said. He said the building was engulfed in flames when fire crews arrived and the fire was under control in about 30 minutes.
Bartolotta Fireworks has several buildings at the site and creates large fireworks displays for the city of Milwaukee every July. The cause of the explosion wasn’t immediately known.
