Ala. firefighters injured when fire engine strikes house, tree

A Hartselle firefighter suffered a medical emergency and lost control of the fire engine

HARTSELLE, Ala. — The city of Hartselle reported that two firefighters were hospitalized after their fire engine struck a house.

According to a social media post from the city, the crash occurred on Aug. 28 as firefighters were returning from a call when the driver suffered a medical emergency and lost control of the vehicle.

The city stated that the lieutenant in the passenger seat managed to steer the truck out of oncoming traffic, but could not fully regain control. The fire engine left the roadway, hit the corner of a house and eventually struck a large tree.

The city reported that both firefighters were transported to a hospital. The lieutenant suffered a hand injury, while the firefighter who experienced the medical episode is being evaluated but is expected to recover.

The Hartselle Police Department stated that the cause of the medical episode is possibly heat-related.
