INDIANAPOLIS — Four firefighters with the Indianapolis Fire Department were injured after the fire engine they were riding in overturned, the department said.
The incident happened on Aug. 3 while the crew was responding to a separate crash. According to the department, the tactical truck had its lights and sirens activated as it made an attempt to maneuver around slowed traffic and a “wide load” that was being escorted by Indiana State Police officers.
Engine 43 successfully maneuvered around the traffic, but TAC43 overturned, landing on its roof.
The department said Indiana State Police officers stopped and rendered aid to the injured firefighters.
The department said four firefighters were transported to the hospital. Two of the firefighters were treated and released while the other two were admitted with serious injuries.
