MIAMI DADE COUNTY, Fla. — The Chief of Public Safety for Miami-Dade County has confirmed that the fire rescue training exercise, during which a firefighter’s son tragically died, was not authorized.
Fabian Camero, the 28-year-old son of a Miami-Dade firefighter, was critically injured and subsequently passed away the following day after being rushed to the hospital, NBC6 reported.
Camero was not employed by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue. His death during the training exercise remains under investigation.
“We will not proceed with the administrative investigation in terms of discipline until we finalize the death investigation,” Reyes said.
NBC6 interviewed the owner of the building where the firefighters conducted their training. The owner stated that Miami-Dade Fire Rescue had been authorized to perform a “non-destructive” training exercise. This aspect of the incident is also currently under review.
