BRAZORIA COUNTY, Texas — A DIY home project turned deadly when the structure collapsed, trapping several family members, Texas deputies said.
The crumbling mobile home in Angleton killed two people, a minor and an adult, and hospitalized five others, the Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office said in a Sept. 22 Facebook post.
A 17-year-old boy and 31-year-old man died, but police did not identify them, according to KHOU.
The home “was in the process of being leveled” as the seven family members worked on it, deputies said.
Rescuers pulled the five surviving family members from the rubble, the sheriff’s office said. First responders used a chainsaw to free one person, deputies told KHOU.
A helicopter transported four people in critical condition to the hospital, deputies said. The other family member was taken by ambulance in stable condition.
The sheriff’s office said it is continuing to investigate.
Angleton is about a 45-mile drive south from Houston .
