Texas volunteer dies of heart attack on duty

By FireRescue1 Staff

DEKALB, Texas — While en route to a training exercise Monday, a Texas firefighter suffered an apparent heart attack, and died.

Firefighter Dale Wayne Grider, 36, of the DeKalb Volunteer Fire Department, had worked an outdoor fire earlier that day, according to the US Fire Administration.

Fellow department members pulled over and tried to revive Firefighter Grider using CPR, but their efforts were unsuccessful.

Firefighter Grider had served as a volunteer at DeKalb for one year.
