Second-alarm fire destroys Washington County barn
Department: Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue - [Tualatin Valley, Oregon]
At approximately 11:28p.m. Sunday evening, firefighters from Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue responded to reports of a barn on fire in the 18000 block of SW Elsner Road in Washington County. While enroute, firefighters could see a column of smoke and flames coming from the barn which stored hay and farm equipment and threatened a nearby home and outbuildings.
Because of the lack of fire hydrants in the rural area, firefighters had to shuttle water from a nearby reservoir located at Al's Garden Center on Roy Roger's Road. Due to the amount of fire involvement, the water supply challenges, and the confirmation that no one was inside the building, firefighters opted to defensively attack the fire and protect nearby structures.
Over sixty firefighters fought and extinguished the blaze, including firefighters from Portland Fire and Rescue, Washington County Fire District #2 and Newberg Fire Department. Deputies from Washington County Sheriff's Office also assisted with traffic control since several roads had to be closed during water shuttle operations.
There were no injuries as a result of this fire and the cause remains under investigation.
