There are two upgrade options. You may download and install the new demo. You can then initialize the demo using the Microsoft Word license on your NFIRS 5 Alive installation CD. Since NFIRS 5 Alive stores all imported NFIRS 5 transaction files in the "Transactions" folder you can easily reload your NFIRS 5 data by moving the transaction files from the old "Transactions" folder into the new demo's "NFIRS5" folder. This will load all incidents using upgraded procedures.
The second option is to keep your loaded incidents by simply upgrading your database structure with the upgrade files below.

Upgrading is very simple. Once you download the "N5AliveUpgrade.exe" onto your hard disk drive double-click on the file to install an "N5AUpgrade" folder. The installers "Read Me" provides the following installation instructions:
You may wish to print these instructions or simply refer to them during the upgrade process:
1. Quit NFIRS 5 Alive. Make a backup of your NFIRS 5 Alive application folder.
2. Delete the "Help" folder from your original installation folder.
3. Move this installed "N5AUpgrade" folder near your NFIRS 5 Alive application folder. (Usually C:\Program Files\)
4. Never replace the N5Alive.4dd and N5Alive.4dr files in your NFIRS 5 Alive application folder. These are your data files and are not to be replaced.
5. If a folder or file appears in the "N5AUpgrade" folder remove the folder or file of the same name from the NFIRS 5 Alive application folder. Drag the new folder or file from the "N5AUpgrade" folder into your NFIRS 5 Alive applications folder as a replacement for the original file or folder of the same name.
6. Continue replacing "NFIRS5Alive2003" folders and files with the same named folders and files from the "N5AUpgrade" folder until the N5AUpgrade folder no longer contains any folders or files. You may place the empty "N5AUpgrade" folder in the Recycle Bin and restart NFIRS 5 Alive in the usual manner.
7. After the software has been upgraded and you are running the new software, press the "Preferences" button and click the "Maintenance" tab. Enter the following Procedural Password

Press the Tab key. NFIRS 5 Alive will now update and renumber NFIRS 5 codes that have changed since the last upgrade. When the renumbering is complete so is your upgrade.
