Job Description
|
| This person’s duties will consist of being able to operate all Fire Department equipment, and the person filling this position will be required to obtain a Class B non-CDL driver’s license. This person will be expected to demonstrate data entry proficiency and extensive communications skills. This person will also be expected to exercise considerable judgment under pressure and to obtain LEADS, EPD, and EFD certification within six months of employment, if training is available. This person will also be called upon to perform general maintenance and testing associated with the Fire Department. This person’s duties are not limited to the above descriptions and may be called upon to work any position as deemed necessary by the Council.

Qualified applicants must be at least 18 years of age, have no felony record, possess a valid Illinois driver’s license, and have a high school diploma or the equivalent. With certain limited exceptions, applicants must not have reached their thirty-fifth birthday as of the deadline for filing applications. Applicants must be able to meet department’s minimum physical and general aptitude standards for the position of firefighter.
All employees of the Fire Department must be certified as telecommunicators and basic computer operators within the probationary period, if certification training is available. Employees may reside outside the corporate limits of the City of Hillsboro, provided they reside within six (6) miles of City Hall.
